March's Girl Hero

Meet our March Girl Hero, Lori Nguyen! Lori is on the Girls on the Run Puget Sound Board of Directors and a member of the Sneaker Soiree Committee. She first got involved with Girls on the Run as a volunteer and sold merchandise at the Regional 5K. She also attended a Coach Training through an introduction from a former Board Member, Jia Yu. If she had to describe GOTR in 3 words, Lori said, "Inspiring, rewarding and humbling."

When asked about a memorable moment from being involved with Girls on the Run, Lori reflected on a time she had visited a team in the fall. "I not only got to meet some of the amazing girls and coaches, but I also got to be part of their first Practice 5K.  As most girls were nearing their final lap, one girl still had another lap but wasn't confident about finishing last while everyone was celebrating at the end and waiting for her to finish.  Before I or any of the coaches could say anything, all the girls who had finished ran to her and finished with her, but at her pace.  At that moment I got to truly see what 'you're only as fast as the slowest person on your team' meant.  Seeing that inspired me to fill in for coaches near my area so that a practice would not be canceled or would feel safer given how early the sun sets in the fall."

Thank you, Lori, for your commitment to Girls on the Run!
