April's Girl Hero

Spring 2026 Junior Coaches

Meet our April Girl Heroes! This month, we are shining a spotlight on some very special volunteers, our Junior Coaches! Our Junior Coaches are high school students who want to develop their leadership skills while also having a fun, rewarding volunteer experience with a Girls on the Run team. Together with a Mentor Coach, they will develop their own skills while also serving as a role model for our program participants.

This spring, five Junior Coaches across King County are growing their leadership skills and connection with the community by volunteering with Girls on the Run. Amelia, Anastasia, Ava, Avery, and Liliana have each been working with a Mentor Coach and their site-based coaching team to grow their confidence to lead the GOTR curriculum! All our Junior Coaches have successfully implemented elements of Hello, Bold Heart! with their team of participants and are unleashing their own limitless potential at every practice.

Amelia is joining us for her second season as a Junior Coach this spring. “Girls on the Run is such a special, empowering community that I am so thankful to be a part of,” she shared. “I always look forward to connecting with each girl during practice... Everyone on the team is always willing to support one another and ensure that no one is left in the shadows, which makes the program especially meaningful.” Thank you, Amelia, for your supportive energy!

Anastasia joins us this season as a first-time Junior Coach and is a former GOTR participant! She loves Girls on the Run because of the positive atmosphere and enjoys inspiring young girls in the community, and teaching them to love running. Anastasia, thank you for giving back to current GOTR girls and supporting the youth in our community!

Ava is also joining us this spring as a first-time Junior Coach and says that it has been the highlight of her year! “I really enjoy watching the girls have fun at every practice, and I love getting to see them grow as people over the season… Getting to connect with each girl individually fills my cup,” Ava shared. Thank you, Ava, for your thoughtfulness.

Avery, another first-time Junior Coach, found Girls on the Run when looking for volunteer opportunities to work with youth in the community.  A highlight for Avery this spring has been building relationships with the GOTR participants on her team. She shares that GOTR is “an experience that will provide you with amazing memories as well as empathy and the opportunity to grow.” Thank you, Avery, for your commitment to Girls on the Run!

Liliana is another first-time Junior Coach joining us this spring! She has loved being a part of Girls on the Run, especially when it comes to making new connections with her participants and other volunteers. She said, “I’m so glad I get to be a part of the program!” Thank you, Liliana, for your enthusiasm and dedication!
